BendixKing Makes an EFIS for Experimentals
With near-4K resolution, the xVue’s 10.1 inch display sits at a price point that makes sense for experimental aircraft.

BendixKing, a unit of Honeywell, introduced xVue Touch, an electronic primary flight display for experimental aircraft, on Tuesday at Sun ’n‘ Fun 2018. The flight display is the company’s first product launched specifically for experimental aircraft.

The xVue Touch is a 10.1-inch touchscreen primary electronic flight instrument system (EFIS) with near-4K resolution that can replace the traditional six pack of mechanical analog instruments. The EFIS has no moving parts, such as mechanical gyros or cooling fans, which reduces aircraft weight and maintenance cost.

It also comes standard with Honeywell’s SmartView synthetic vision system, a vertical situation display that shows flight path over terrain, and the ability to display ADS-B In weather. The xVue interfaces with many navigation systems and uses Wi-Fi for databases, charts, and system software updates. Also included in xVue Touch are free future software updates, which will include engine indicators, radio information, and autopilot control. One button push splits the large screen into a standard vertical PFD/MFD presentation. One click again can declutter the MFD, or swap between IFR, VFR sectionals, or charts. There is own-ship navigation available on the charts, as well, according to Doug Hayden, BendixKing area sales manager, Northwest/Central USA. “You’ll be able to see yourself taxiing and make sure your route to the runway is correct,” he explained.

By using infrared technology, xVue Touch achieves 97 percent touch accuracy and is usable with gloves. Menus are not nested, and it takes no more than four touches to perform any function, according to the company. There are also four knobs external to the panel that control barometric adjustments, an altitude bug, heading bug, and course selection.

“The xVue is for sale here at the show for $5,495; available by the end of this week, initially through our partner Aircraft Spruce, in Hangar B,” oger Dykmann, BendixKing vice president of sales for the Americas, told AIN.
