At EAA AirVenture, Vision Systems is displaying its second-generation electronically dimmable window (EDW) Nuance V2 at PPG’s booth 2072 in Hangar B. The EDW allows passengers to change the tint of their window from clear to very dark. According to Vision Systems, this improved window system provides optical quality that features haze as low as 2.5 percent and clarity as high as 100 percent.
The Nuance V2 on display at AirVenture offers a weight reduction of up to 30 percent compared to motorized shades. Electronics are fully integrated so there are no moving parts. The EDW can be incorporated into curved or flat surfaces and use plastic or composite glass.
According to the company, the dimmable window may reduce heat in the cabin and keep the interior cool while on the tarmac, which can reduce air conditioning costs. They are also designed to block UV and IR light while acting as a noise barrier to keep the cabin quieter. Passengers control the EDW with its laminated touch panel.
