Metro Aviation revealed its new Airbus H140 medical interior concept at the recent Air Medical Transport Conference. Designed for helicopter emergency medical services (HEMS), the concept’s configuration focuses on providing greater flexibility and accessibility for medical crews. The layout straightens the rear floor edge, reducing the occurrence of misalignment or slipping during loading and unloading procedures, according to the company.

“We’ve spent years listening to what medical crews need from their aircraft,” said Metro Aviation director of aircraft configuration Amy McMullen. “With the H140, we have an opportunity to take that feedback and develop an interior around how they actually work, rather than asking them to adapt to the aircraft.”

Metro Aviation’s concept includes a central medical console, multiple equipment mounting locations, aft storage compartment, and provisions for a powered stretcher system. It said the main focus of the interior is modularity, allowing operators to customize the aircraft to their specific medical equipment and operational parameters.

The company has collaborated with Airbus throughout the H140’s development by providing operator feedback during multiple visits to the manufacturer’s facilities in Germany.

“Airbus has been incredibly receptive throughout this process,” said Shawn Bruton, Part 135 director of maintenance at Metro Aviation. “We’ve worked closely with their team to help shape the interior of an aircraft that addresses many of the challenges we’ve seen in previous platforms.”
