Trig Avionics has announced the release of the TY96A and TY97A 760-channel VHF radios with 25-kHz spacing, the latest addition to its radio range. The Edinburgh, Scotland-based company will be located in Hangar C, Booth 3130 next week at EAA Airventure 2017.
Ideal for pilots flying outside 8.33-kHz mandated airspace, the TY96A and TY97A have the same slimline design as the TY96 and TY97 at 33mm (1.3 inch) high. The TY96A is a 10-watt radio; the TY97A is a 16-watt version.
The new radios have no cooling fans, making them easier and cheaper to accommodate in an old stack. A “push step” button enables fast tuning and transition between 25 kHz and 50k Hz. Pilots can coarse tune in 50 kHz and then fine tune in 25kHz.
Frequencies and identifiers are shown on the radios, with a flip-flop button to make a standby frequency active. A dual watch feature allows monitoring of two frequencies and an “emergency” button makes selection of the 121.5 MHz channel instantaneous. Pilots also have access to a “say again” feature, which replays up to 30 seconds of the previously received transmission.
“We are pleased to announce the launch of our 760-channel VHF 25-kHz spacing radios,” said Trig marketing manager Jon Roper. “These are feature-rich, pilot-friendly radios for GA pilots not requiring 8.33-kHz spacing.”
