Garmin is providing relief for a long-standing issue that customers frequently complained about, the high cost of database updates for cockpits equipped with multiple avionics boxes that rely on current data. The new navigation database, single navigator bundles and OnePak options will offer significant savings and simplify database updating.
The navigation database is available for the GNS 430W/530W or GTN 650/750 for $129 for a single update or $299 for an annual subscription. A single navigator bundle for the GNS 430W/530W includes the nav database, obstacles and terrain starting at $449. The GTN bundle includes the database, obstacles, SafeTaxi and terrain starting at $499.
More savings are possible with the OnePak subscription, which allows downloading to multiple Garmin avionics in one aircraft and updating a single qualifying portable device. Pricing starts at $649 for a U.S. OnePak, and this includes the nav database, AOPA airport directory, IFR en route and VFR sectional charts, obstacles, SafeTaxi, terrain and basemap plus a one-year upgrade to Garmin Pilot IFR Premium with U.S. coverage on Apple or Android devices. PilotPaks are available for global operators. The Garmin nav database is currently available only for North and Central America. New IFR chart coverage is available for the Caribbean for the G3X Touch, Garmin Pilot (iOS only), aera 660 and aera 795/796. Garmin has also added SafeTaxi airport diagrams in Brazil to Garmin Pilot, and additional Central and South American coverage and expanded SafeTaxi coverage in Brazil for certain portable devices is expected in the third quarter.
Avionics covered by the navigation database, single navigator bundles and OnePak options include GTN and GNS navigators, G500/G600/G500H displays, G1000 through G5000 flight decks, G3X, G3X Touch and G900X displays and portables such as the aera 500 and 795/796 series and aera 660 and GPSMap 696.
Garmin also has released a new USB Aviation Data Card Programmer for the GNS 430W/530W, which simplifies database updates and is priced at $69.95.
