New York-based avionics provider Astronics is offering promotional pricing for its two newest enhanced vision systems (EVS) intended for experimental and homebuilt aircraft. "Special EAA AirVenture pricing will help us introduce our two new enhanced vision systems during the largest gathering of adventurous aviators in the world,” said Astronics Max-Viz executive vice president Elliot Troutman. The adjusted prices will be in effect for the duration of the July 25 to 31 show, both at the company’s booth (3077) and on its website.
The non-TSOd systems from its Astronics Max-Viz subsidiary include the new Max-Viz X1+HR (for high-resolution), which uses a 640x480-pixel resolution long wave infrared thermal imager with electronic zoom to assist pilots who normally operate from unimproved runways with the threat of wildlife incursions. It is compatible with any display that accepts NTSC or PAL/Analog RS-170 signals. Normally priced at $18,000, it will be introduced at $16,800 during AirVenture.
Its Max-Viz X1 EVS, which has a 320x240-pixel resolution, is also compliant with RTCA/DO160G environmental qualification test standards. This model, available at an EAA show price of $5,700 (a $300 savings), is a lightweight system that allows operators to see temporary obstructions such as construction barriers not in any synthetic vision database and not readily visible.
Both systems increase safety by allowing pilots to see up to 10 times farther than the unaided eye in visually challenging conditions such as smoke, haze and light fog, in both daylight and nighttime, according to the company.
