A lifelong aviation enthusiast who joined&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;in 2007, Curt came to&nbsp;the publication&nbsp;from the broadcast industry where he was a national science and technology television reporter and producer. He writes on the FBO field, aviation finance, and sustainable aviation and occasionally contributes to&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;sister publication&nbsp;Business Jet Traveler. Curt was a member of the AINtv reporting staff that won the 2008 Aerospace Journalist of the Year award for Best Airshow Daily. That same year, he was a finalist for another AJOYA award. He earned an AJOYA for Best Business Aviation Submission in 2018 and was a finalist in that category in 2021. He received the National Air Transportation Association’s&nbsp; Aviation Journalist Award in 2012 and won a Pegasus Sapphire Business Aviation Award for outstanding journalism in 2021.
Before joining AIN, Curt worked with&nbsp;Consumer Reports’ television division, CRTV, and for several local television news staffs. An honors graduate of the State University of New York at Stony Brook, he earned a master’s degree in broadcast journalism from Boston University in 1995. Curt lives in New York State with his wife and two young sons.

Jackson Hole Airport in Wyoming became the most recent location for business aviation operators to sample sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) last week when Avfuel provided 7,300 gallons of the blended fuel to Jackson Hole Aviation, the airport-operated FBO. As demonstrated in events earlier this year such as at Van Nuys, California, in January and at several locations in the U.S. and Europe ahead of EBACE, SAF is a drop-in replacement for standard jet-A.

 


“These demonstration-type days are key to raising awareness on the viability of sustainable aviation fuel,” said Keith Sawyer, the Ann Arbor, Michigan-based fuel provider’s manager of alternative fuels. “They prove the concept that the product exists, it is safe, and it provides a great benefit to the environment.”

 


The shipment represented a reduction of two metric tons in the life-cycle CO2 emissions. As&nbsp;supplying&nbsp;SAF continues to represent a hurdle in the widespread use of the fuel, Avfuel hopes that events such as this will raise awareness of it and encourage further production in the fuel supply chain.

 


“The Jackson Hole Airport plans to have this fuel on-site when it is readily available,” said Jim Elwood, the airport’s executive director. “We look forward to the day when using this cleaner, efficient fuel will set standards, not only for our airport&nbsp;but also for airports and aviators around the globe.”
