L3's CRT-to-LCD Retrofit Approved for Legacy Bizcraft
Besides improved reliability, the displays have lower power requirements and can achieve a reduction in weight per cockpit of up to 20 to 25 pounds.

L3 Aviation Products’ CRT-to-LCD retrofit EFI-650 cockpit display received FAA technical standard order (TSO) authorization, as well as an approved model list supplemental type certificate (AML-STC) for regional and legacy corporate aircraft. According to L3, the EFI-650 is fully interchangeable with legacy displays, since it is a “form/fit/function” replacement that requires no aircraft modifications.

“Our EFI-650 product line features a modern, cost-effective display for regional and business aviation customers,” said L3 Aviation Products president Stuart Mullan. “This solution is lighter, produces less heat and requires less power than aging CRTs, and will extend the life of legacy aircraft by offering reliable active-matrix LCD technology for displaying critical flight data.”

L3 said its retrofit displays have double the reliability of CRTs, which are subject to degradation over time. Besides improved reliability, the EFI-650 displays have lower power requirements and are as much as 20 to 25 pounds lighter.

The EFI-650 was developed as part of L3’s alliance with Thomas Global Systems and incorporates the latter company's adaptive display architecture display processing technology.
