Jeppesen Updates FlightDeck iPad App, Says iOS 7 OK

Jeppesen’s new version of its Mobile FliteDeck e-chart app for the iPad and iPad mini is now available at the Apple App Store, the company announced late last week. Mobile FliteDeck v2.1, which is compatible with both iOS 6 and the new iOS 7, further enhances pilot situational awareness and optimizes user interaction, Jeppesen said.

New capabilities include the display of own-ship position on geo-referenced terminal procedures and an integrated distance-measuring tool, as well as automatic display of airport taxi diagrams based on user-configured speed settings. The updated app also includes easier preview and selection of charts, a two-finger swipe function to navigate between selected charts, Nexrad weather data and a custom keyboard that supports Mobile FliteDeck’s night theme. It can also save flights.

Meanwhile, Jeppesen said it has had no issues with any Mobile FliteDeck apps, including v2.1, running on the new iOS 7 operating system. Hilton Software, developer of the WingX Pro aviation app, has advised its users to delay upgrading to iOS 7, but Jeppesen’s product development team told AIN, “Jeppesen has experienced positive feedback from our customers regarding Mobile FliteDeck apps that are running on iPad with iOS 7.”
