ViaSat, a Carlsbad, Calif. provider of satellite broadband services for business jets, has appointed Midcoast Aviation and Savannah Air Center “value added resellers” of its airborne mobile broadband terminals.
ViaSat’s Yonder data and voice service provides high-speed connectivity in flight by linking through Ku-band satellites. The company has introduced its VMT-1500 terminal for large-cabin business jets. The system uses ViaSat ArcLight technology, which allows a small, lightweight antenna to provide download speeds in the cabin of up to 10 megabits per second.
The service is available over North America, Europe, parts of Russia and Asia and the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. Through a partnership with maritime service provider KVH Industries, ViaSat’s goal is to provide worldwide coverage by the end of next year.
