Chicago Jet Group, located at Aurora Municipal Airport, has gained an STC for installing dual Universal Avionics UNS-1Fw and UNS-1Lw flight management systems in the Dassault Falcon 50. The STC includes approval for 3-D coupled Waas GPS (Rnav) and localizer performance with vertical guidance approaches (LPV). LPVs are the fastest growing type of instrument approach in the U.S., having swelled in recent months to a total of 1,600 procedures versus fewer than 1,000 ILS approaches. LPV provides precision landing minimums similar to ILS, but relies only on GPS satellites and Waas for lateral and vertical position guidance. Universal noted it was the first avionics manufacturer to gain approval for Waas and LPV operations in Part 25 business jets. Chicago Jet Group also holds an STC for installation of Universal’s MFD-640 multifunction display and TAWS in the Falcon 50.
