One hundred years after introducing the first aviation tire–the Wing Aeroplane tire–Goodyear Tire and Rubber is adding a new tire to its lineup, the Flight Eagle LT designed for light jets, including very light jets and single-engine entry-level jets. The six-ply Flight Eagle LT is optimized for higher-speed applications with a reinforced bead area, high-speed tread compound and a two-groove tread design. The lightweight Flight Eagle LT is approved as original equipment on Embraer’s Phenom 100 and the upcoming Phenom 300. Also offering weight savings is Goodyear’s new H37.5x12.0R19, developed for Gulfstream’s new large-cabin, long-range G650. The new tire features a patented aluminum alloy bead core, replacing the traditional steel bead core surrounded by high-tensile wire, reducing weight by three pounds per tire. Other pioneering Goodyear inventions include the first retreadable aircraft tire, introduced in 1927, and in 1928 the first low-pressure aircraft tire, the Airwheel, “virtually eliminating the need for a wheel by mounting directly to the hub.”
