Midcoast Aviation and Bombardier Aerospace inked an agreement for completion of green large-cabin Bombardier jets. The agreement boosts Midcoast’s completion backlog for new Bombardier jets to 2011, according to Midcoast president Kurt Sutterer, more than doubling the company’s workload on behalf of Bombardier.

The agreement covers up to 48 completions for the Bombardier Global 5000, Global Express XRS and Challenger 605 and 850. To date, Midcoast has accomplished more than 70 green completions on large-cabin Bombardier jets, Sutterer said. The work will be done at the company’s new 125,000-sq-ft facility at its Cahokia, Ill. headquarters, which opens January 1.

“This is a good agreement for both of us,” said Eric Martel, vice president and general manager, Bombardier Business Aircraft Challenger and Global product lines. Bombardier still does most large-cabin completions at its Montreal factory, he added, but needed to secure green completion positions to ensure capacity during the next few years. “The challenge for completions is to get enough capacity,” he said.
