Brazilian, U.S. and European aviation agencies have certified the hardware package supporting Inmarsat Swift64 high-speed-data service aboard Embraer’s Legacy business jet. The Brazilian manufacturer delivered the first Swift64-equipped Legacy in late July to a U.S. customer who ordered the airplane with cabin wireless technology for connecting multiple laptops.
The connection speed in the dual-channel package Embraer currently offers can reach 128 kilobytes per second. That speed “may be upgraded” when Inmarsat introduces SwiftBroadband services late next year supporting connections up to 432 kbps per channel, according to the manufacturer.
