Lufthansa Technik Carving a Bigger Market Share

The hangars at Lufthansa Technik are filling rapidly with new jobs, and there are more to come. The executive interiors specialist now has two Boeing 747-400s, an Airbus A319, a Boeing Business Jet and a Bombardier Challenger 850 in the works at its facility in Hamburg, Germany. All are green aircraft. In for major cabin refurbishment are two Boeing 777s and an MD-11 (the first Project U aircraft). In November, Lufthansa Technik signed contracts to do the interiors in eight Airbus A318 Elites. The first will arrive late this year, and a spokesman said the company expects to complete them at the rate of about one every four months. Looking further ahead, Lufthansa Technik anticipates delivery of the first Airbus A380 for executive completion in 2008 and has already finished work on a “doghouse” hangar addition that will allow complete enclosure of the massive airplane.
