A regional power failure around Amsterdam forced Schiphol airport to cease operations for about 90 minutes on Friday morning. Power returned at around 10:45 am local time, but disruptions continued while the airport worked to resume normal operations. The airport advised all passengers to check with the individual carriers about their flight status.

Meanwhile, large parts of North Holland province remained without power for some five hours, and trains in and around Amsterdam hadn’t returned to service until the afternoon. The Netherlands’ state-owed power company, TenneT, said the disruption stemmed from maintenance activity at the substation in Diemen, a town located just southeast of Amsterdam.
