The FAA plans to halt around-the-clock technical staffing of the Pico del Este long-range radar in Puerto Rico. As part of the move, four radar technicians are being reassigned to nearby San Juan International Airport. An FAA spokeswoman said the Pico del Este radar is one of dozens of overlapping radars serving civil aviation, the Department of Defense and Immigration and Customs Enforcement missions in Caribbean airspace. Therefore, she noted, the change will not affect safety.
