The FAA now has the technology in place to deploy Airspace Flow Programs (AFPs) in support of its Severe Weather Avoidance Plan.
The AFPs will primarily affect traffic flying into the Northeast from domestic origins west of the New York and Boston Air Route Traffic Control Centers.

The AFPs will primarily affect traffic flying into the Northeast from domestic origins west of the New York and Boston Air Route Traffic Control Centers. To determine if an AFP is in effect, check the FAA’s National Airspace System status page at www.fly.faa.gov/ois. Any flight that has a route through one of the six possible AFP flow-constrained areas may be subject to a departure delay and be assigned an estimated departure clearance time.
