Hybrid-electric powertrain pioneer Ampaire is expanding its portfolio of sustainable flight solutions with the acquisition of Magpie, a start-up developing an autonomous tow for electric aircraft.
Azul Conecta, Brazil's largest operator of Cessna Grand Caravans, has provisionally ordered up to six Eco Caravan hybrid-electric conversion kits from Ampaire.
Ampaire, which recently received a $9 million award from the U.S. Department of Energy, has received another $150,000 from NASA's Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program to fund its development of hybrid-electric powertrains.
The Eco Caravan made a first flight on November 18, marking a key waypoint in Ampaire’s efforts to bring the converted hybrid-electric aircraft to market.
