Agricultural Aviation Celebrates 100th Anniversary
This week marks a milestone in general aviation history, the centennial anniversary of agricultural aviation.
This photo from 1921 shows the birth of an industry: the first aerial application and aerial crop dusting demonstration flight flown by Army test pilot Lt. John Macready on Aug. 3, 1921. The application was made upwind of a grove of catalpa trees infested by sphinx moth larvae in Troy, Ohio. The arrow superimposed on the historical photo shows the wind direction at the time of the flight. (Photo: National Agricultural Aviation Association)
