Hartzell Introduces Rebuilt Alternators To Help Meet Demand
As it deals with supply chain issues surrounding its new built gear-driven alternators, Hartzell goes the factory-refurb route.

As it works to solve sourcing issues with its line of Plane-Power high-output, gear-driven alternators, Hartzell Engine Technologies (Booth 296) announced on the eve of EAA AirVenture 2016 that it will make factory-rebuilt units available to customers. “There will be some internal components, that while not new, will be inspected, tested and certified to meet new standards,” said company president Mike Disbrow. “These factory-rebuilt units will carry the same two-year warranty offered on every new Plane-Power alternator.”

Available from Hartzell distributors at a price of $1,899, the FAA-PMA approved units include the C28-150-FR, rated at 28V/150A, and the C14-100-FR, rated at 14V/100A, both with and without debris shield and blast tubes.

Available for the Continental 520 and 550, as well as the Lycoming TIGO-541 series engines, the units feature dual cooling fans for durability even in low-engine-RPM/high-output installations, according to the manufacturer.

“The Plane-Power C28-150 and C-14-100 gear-driven alternators deliver more continuous power at lower engine RPMs than any other aircraft alternator,” said Disbrow. “Aircraft owners with high electrical demand during ground operations, such as those with sophisticated avionics suites or electrically driven air conditioning systems will appreciate the abundant electrical power they will get at idle with these Plane-Power alternators.”
