Ruag Aviation announced a teaming with Highland Integrated Surveillance Systems (HISS) to market and deliver turnkey electronic warfare solutions for airborne platforms. The Swiss and American companies have “complementary competencies,” according to Ruag.

Together with Saab, Ruag developed the Integrated Self-protection SYStem (ISSYS), which has to date been applied only to helicopters. It alerts their crews to radar, laser and missile threats, and deploys chaff and/or flare countermeasures. Ruag offers ISSYS as an internal or pod-mounted installation and reports that “several” European air forces have adopted the system.

HISS specializes in fitting surveillance equipment to aircraft and helicopters. It has developed novel installations for fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft, especially C-130s, and recently announced its first sale to a C-130 operator in Europe. HISS says its systems are flying in 26 countries.
