Gulfstream Aerospace recently delivered the first of an order for five C-37A special mission versions of the GV to the U.S. Air Force. The lease and support service agreement is valued at $477 million and the remaining aircraft are slated for delivery at intervals through September next year. The first aircraft was delivered at Gulfstream’s Savannah, Ga. headquarters facility and flown from there to MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Fla., by Gen. Charles Robertson, commanding general of the Air Force Transportation Command and Air Mobility Command.  The C37-As will replace an aging fleet of airline-type aircraft that are 40 years old on average. The Air Force estimates the replacement fleet will allow the service to save approximately $400 million through cost-avoidance and reduced operating and maintenance costs. Three of the aircraft will be stationed at MacDill, the fourth at Hickam Air Force Base in Hawaii and the fifth at an air base in Chievres, Belgium.
