A lifelong aviation enthusiast who joined&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;in 2007, Curt came to&nbsp;the publication&nbsp;from the broadcast industry where he was a national science and technology television reporter and producer. He writes on the FBO field, aviation finance, and sustainable aviation and occasionally contributes to&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;sister publication&nbsp;Business Jet Traveler. Curt was a member of the AINtv reporting staff that won the 2008 Aerospace Journalist of the Year award for Best Airshow Daily. That same year, he was a finalist for another AJOYA award. He earned an AJOYA for Best Business Aviation Submission in 2018 and was a finalist in that category in 2021. He received the National Air Transportation Association’s&nbsp; Aviation Journalist Award in 2012 and won a Pegasus Sapphire Business Aviation Award for outstanding journalism in 2021.
Before joining AIN, Curt worked with&nbsp;Consumer Reports’ television division, CRTV, and for several local television news staffs. An honors graduate of the State University of New York at Stony Brook, he earned a master’s degree in broadcast journalism from Boston University in 1995. Curt lives in New York State with his wife and two young sons.

Modern Aviation publicly unveiled its upgraded FBO complex at New York’s Francis Gabreski Airport (KFOK) this morning. Located on the eastern end of Long Island, KFOK serves the tony Hamptons area.
Built in 2007, the FBO’s 4,785-sq-ft terminal was completely gutted starting in March and fully renovated. It features a landside porte-cochère, two passenger lounges, pilot lounge, flight-planning area, shower facilities, concierge, refreshment bar, kitchenette/dining area, business center, 10-seat conference room, onsite car rental, and a crew car. U.S. Customs is available on call 24/7.
The highlight of the $18 million project is the newly built, heated 34,475-sq-ft hangar that can accommodate ultra-long-range business jets. Constructed over the course of the past year, it brings the facility to 92,042 sq ft of aircraft shelter. An adjoining new building offers 2,250 sq ft of private office space.
“This new hangar strengthens our ability to serve customers with the high standards of safety, service, and reliability that define Modern Aviation,” said company CEO and co-founder Mark Carmen at the ribbon-cutting event, which was attended by company employees, local dignitaries, and elected officials. “It also reinforces our long-term commitment to this community and to the continued growth of aviation across Long Island.”
Modern <a href="https://www.ainonline.com/aviation-news/business-aviation/2021-10-18/modern-aviation-makes-deal-sheltairs-new-york-fbos">acquired</a> the location in 2021 as part of Sheltair’s divestiture of the New York market. According to Modern COO Richard Layson, while KFOK’s traffic is keyed very much to the Hamptons summer season, the new hangar will inject much-needed year-round capacity into the tight metro New York aviation real estate market.
