Kerry Lynch stepped into the role of editor of the&nbsp;Aviation International News&nbsp;monthly magazine in May 2022 after serving with&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;for eight years. She joined&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;in December 2014 as a senior editor covering Washington and business aviation news. She has also served on Convention News teams, including as editor of&nbsp;HAI Convention News. Lynch previously spent 25 years with Aviation Week. During her time there, she reported for and later steered&nbsp;The Weekly of Business Aviation, oversaw business aviation content on the&nbsp;Aviation Week Intelligence Network, served on the&nbsp;Show News&nbsp;staff, and held roles as the Washington columnist for&nbsp;Business &amp; Commercial Aviation&nbsp;and&nbsp;Overhaul &amp; Maintenance&nbsp;monthly magazines. In 2021 she was honored with the National Business Aviation Association Platinum Wing Award for lifetime achievement in journalism and was the 2004 recipient of the National Air Transportation Association’s Aviation Journalism Excellence Award. She also has been a recipient of an Aerospace Media Award for business aviation (2022) and NBAA Gold Wing Award (2003, 2024). Lynch graduated from The Ohio State University with a bachelor of arts in journalism.

The 2018 European Business Aviation Convention &amp; Exhibition concluded last week in Geneva showcasing a strengthening and forward-looking European market with an increase in exhibitors overall, a strong showing of new exhibitors, a sold-out static display, and sessions highlighting the future of the industry.

 


The event drew 418 exhibitors, a slight increase over last year’s tally that had also topped 400, and 54 aircraft on static display that ran the gamut from bizliners and ultra-long-range business jets to turboprops, fixed-wing pistons, and helicopters.

 


New this year was a pavilion on the show floor to highlight first-time exhibitors, and the event had drawn nearly 100 newcomers in all.&nbsp;Meanwhile, underscoring the international flavor of the show, attendees represented close to 100 countries.

 


New and updated aircraft were unveiled, including Honda Aircraft’s HondaJet Elite and Bombardier’s Globals 5500 and 6500. And, a new engine family was revealed, beginning with the Rolls-Royce Pearl 15. Deals were made: Bombardier received an order from HK Bellawings Jet valued at $1.136 billion for Global 6500 and 7500s, while Embraer announced the sale of four more Legacy 650Es valued at $103.6 million to Air Hamburg, as well as a Legacy 500 to Centreline.

 


“This was a decidedly upbeat, optimistic EBACE week, which highlighted the passion and enthusiasm at the heart of the business aviation community,” said Juergen Wiese, chairman of EBACE co-organizer EBAA. “The show reflected a reverence for the industry’s history, as well as an embrace of its future.”

 


This was a sentiment shared by Ed Bolen, president and CEO of EBACE co-organizer NBAA: “The new aircraft models, the new business models, the featured speakers and the trends we discussed all point to an energetic industry looking toward tomorrow.”

 


Organizers honored the industry’s history with the dedication of the 2018 EBACE to aviation visionary Serge Dassault, who passed away on the eve of the show. Looking forward, the business aviation industry came together to kick off EBACE with the unveiling of an industry-wide initiative to further the development and adoption of Sustainable Alternative Jet Fuels.

 


Also in preparation for the future was the return the Careers in Business Aviation Day. The second edition of this EBACE event introduced 250 students from high schools and universities throughout Europe to career opportunities in business aviation.

 


EBAA also released a study, “Expanding Horizons: How Millennials see the Future of Business Aviation,” which provided insight on the recognition of young professionals of the value of business aviation.

 


Key issues were discussed in a variety of informational sessions, including Brexit, European airport and airspace access, business aviation’s role in times of crisis, and the promotion of career opportunities. EBACE also hosted an International Aircraft Transactions Seminar, and the opening session drew a standing-room-only audience with Yves “Jetman” Rossy as the keynote.

 


Next year’s edition of EBACE will be held from May 21 to 23, 2019 in Geneva.
