Gulfstream Aerospace’s aircraft production plant and service center in Savannah, Georgia, and completions and maintenance facilities in Brunswick, Georgia, were closed yesterday and today due to the winter storm that has brought snow and ice from the U.S. Northeast as far south as northern Florida. “I am not sure when the last time we closed for snow was, but we closed for a potential ice storm in January 2014,” a Gulfstream spokeswoman told AIN. “The safety of our employees and their families is our top priority.”

The company manufactures the G550 and G650/650ER and is ramping up G500 and G600 production at its Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport-based headquarters. Additionally, the location hosts Gulfstream’s flagship service center—the world’s largest purpose-built business jet maintenance facility at 679,199 sq ft—which can simultaneously work on 36 aircraft. Overall, about 8,500 people work at Gulfstream’s Savannah location.

Its 165,000-sq-ft service center and completions facility at the Brunswick Golden Isles Airport employs approximately 250, including more than 100 technicians, fabricators, and craftsmen.
