Presidential TFR Returns To PBI through January 1
The TFR is among a number that could happen over the next several months for the Palm Beach area.

Presidential temporary flight restrictions (TFRs) have returned to the Palm Beach, Florida area with the latest TFR in place from December 22 at 11 a.m. ET through 5 p.m. ET on January 1 while President Trump spends time at his Mar-a-Lago resort. It includes a 10-nm inner ring that prohibits general aviation operations at Palm Beach County Park (LNA) and a 30-nm outer ring with additional operating restrictions.

While general aviation operations are prohibited at Palm Beach International Airport (PBI) as well, the Transportation Security Administration is maintaining gateway airport procedures and screening requirements for arrivals and departures. The TSA has designated Orlando International (MCO), Fort Lauderdale International (FLL), Dulles International (IAD), Teterboro Airport (TEB) and Westchester County (HPN) gateway airports for traffic inbound to PBI. Additionally, screening will be available at PBI for departures.

Screening at PBI will be available from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on December 22 and then from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the remaining duration of the TFR. NBAA, advising operators of the latest TFR, noted that operators must register with the TSA for screening at least 24 hours before departure by calling (561) 616-9650 to obtain a reservation.

The TFR is among a number that could happen over the next several months for the Palm Beach area. At least a half-dozen such TFRs were implemented last winter and early spring, shuttering LAN altogether and making operations at PBI much more difficult during a peak season.

NBAA is expecting to discuss the TFRs further with FAA and TSA representatives at the association’s Regional Forum at PBI on January 24.
