EASA OKs Chicago Jet Universal Avionics Fans Solutions
Fans retrofits are needed by many operators flying from the U.S. and also from Europe.

Chicago Jet Group’s STCs for Future Air Navigation System (Fans) retrofits using Universal Avionics products have received EASA approval. The STCs cover a variety of jet types, including the Boeing 767-200, Bombardier Challenger 600 through 604, Dassault Falcon 900 and 2000 (including EX models), and Gulfstream G100/Astra/SPX and GII through GV.

The Fans retrofit include Universal's SBAS FMS, cockpit voice recorder for storing ATC messages and the UniLink UL800/801 communications management unit. Fans upgrades require a telecommunications system, and these Chicago Jet STCs can use either an Iridium- or Inmarsat-based satcom. This retrofit also adds CPDLC and ADS-C functionality, as well as allows operators to take advantage of digital clearances at the more than 50 U.S. airports that offer this service. With the Fans installation, provisions are included for ADS-B OUT and European CPDLC initiatives such as ATN B1.

"The process to obtain these approvals was quite complex," said Chicago Jet Group president Mike Mitera. "We did extensive research into the EASA approval process and determined we could apply through our EASA-approved repair station with the assistance of the FAA.”

"These EASA approvals help to open the door for European operators to meet global navigation mandates, while also utilizing the significant time and cost advantages offered by flying in Fans-preferred airspace," according to Mike Marie, Universal Avionics' central U.S. regional sales manager.
