Business aircraft charter broker Paramount Business Jets (PBJ) coordinated with The Sato Project to fly 34 rescued stray dogs on Saturday from one of Puerto Rico’s most impoverished regions to the U.S., where they will be put up for adoption. Since 2011, Sato has rescued and rehabilitated more than 1,500 dogs from Yabucoa’s so-called “Dead Dog Beach.”
After providing veterinary care, project volunteers arrange flights to transport the dogs to the U.S. for adoption. But when prior arrangements for a flight fell through last week, The Sato Project contacted PBJ charter coordinator Scott Lebovitz with an urgent call for assistance.
In less than a day, Lebovitz vetted and booked an aircraft operator with considerable experience in transporting live cargo. He also arranged a travel schedule to ensure cooler temperatures on the ground for the animals while the aircraft made a required fuel stop en route to Morristown, N.J.
Saturday's flight, dubbed “Mission Possible 7,” was financially sponsored by equestrian and animal lover Georgina Bloomberg, daughter of former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
