ATC Manager Indicted for Fraud
The aviation technical specialist is charged with accepting unemployability benefits while working as a full-time federal employee.

An indictment was filed on May 12 in U.S. District Court, Indianapolis, Ind., against Alexander Singleton, a supervisory aviation technical specialist at the Memphis Air Traffic Control Center, charging him with fraudulently obtaining more than $97,000 in U.S. Veteran's Administration (VA) benefits. Singleton was previously arrested on April 15, 2015, based on similar charges.

The VA Regional Office (VARO) in Indianapolis discovered Singleton applied for and received VA individual unemployability (IU) benefits while concurrently employed as a full-time federal employee. The indictment alleges that on or about April 8, 2008, Singleton submitted a false IU claim to the VA indicating he last worked full time on July 15, 2007. Singleton allegedly provided additional false documents and statements to the VA in support of his claim.

In coordination with the VA, the Social Security Administration and the U.S. Department of Interior's National Business Center discovered that Singleton had been a full-time employee of the FAA since March 2, 2008, and hence, was not eligible for IU benefits.
