With more than 2,000 attendees preparing to head to San Jose, Calif., next week for the annual NBAA Schedulers and Dispatchers Conference, the show’s advisory council is hoping they’ll clean our their closets before they come. For the fifth straight year, the conference will be conducting its “Pay It Forward” clothing drive, which will collect gently used business attire at the show’s registration area for donation to local charities, such as Dress for Success, in the host city.
Starting with just 67 garments collected in 2011 in Savannah, the aircraft schedulers and dispatchers community increased its response to the drive nearly tenfold, delivering 649 garments last year in New Orleans, according to advisory council chair Debbi Laux, MedAire’s director of trade relations. Last year’s show also collected $1,500 in donations.
Before the start of this year’s event, industry apparel provider Shirt Boy and Landmark Aviation each committed to donating 200 new blouses, while World Fuel Services will provide 400 dress shirts. Signature Flight Support will sponsor a pedometer contest to determine who walks the most during the course of the show, with all proceeds going to Pay it Forward.
