The Jet Support division of St. Louis-based aircraft parts and services provider Avmats has established a composite shop under the direction of vice president Bill Kener to support the company’s new emphasis on one-off parts manufacture and repair.

Approved by the FAA in April, the composite shop has a 25- by eight- by eight-foot curing oven, accurate to within one degree. “Anything from fairings to flight controls can fit in there,” said Kener. The company can fabricate composite interior panels, custom ducts and other parts for Beechjet, Bombardier, Dassault Falcon, Gulfstream and Hawker jets, according to Matt Crimm, Avmats’ manager of structural sales. “The biggest thing we’ve concentrated on is doing one-off repairs and [fabricating] one-off parts with respectable prices,” Crimm said. “[Other shops want] to send [parts to be repaired] to the manufacturer and wait six months.”

The division also acquired a new CNC machine to improve its parts fabrication capabilities and is eager to hear from prospective customers with challenging needs. “As long as I can get the tech data and approval to do a repair, I’m going to quote it,” Crimm told AIN.
