Amac Aerospace has successfully completed a 16-year/192-month structural inspection on a Gulfstream V at its hangar in Basel, Switzerland. The project included repetitive eight-year/96-month inspection tasks.

According to the company, it is the first independently owned MRO specialist in Europe to perform the complex maintenance review. The inspection required the removal of all cabin and cockpit equipment, as well as furnishings, baring the fuselage skin and all mechanisms and structural parts for scrutiny. The detailed inspection included removal and subsequent reinstallation of all hard shell, insulation blanket and sound proofing materials. Various non-destructive testing inspections were carried out on the structural parts below the fuselage floor and on the nacelle/pylon. The inspection also incorporated numerous aircraft service parts changes.

Notably, Amac undertook a complicated ASC 173A water line ribbon heater upgrade, which was carried out once the cabin fittings had been removed. This inspection confirmed there was no structural fuselage damage caused by corrosion or fatigue.

The project was completed in November on time and on budget, according to Amac.
