Embraer Unveils Legacy 450/500 Enhancements

Brazil’s Embraer announced several “product enhancements” to its midsize Legacy 500 and “mid-light” Legacy 450 business jets at last week’s NBAA 2013 Convention in Las Vegas.

With the first prototype of the Legacy 450 due to fly by year-end, the manufacturer revealed that it has extended the fuselage of the jet by more than half a foot to provide six additional inches of cabin length. Embraer has also increased the range specification of the Legacy 450 from 2,300 to 2,500 nm with four passengers by increasing the aircraft’s full-fuel capacity.

The two new Legacys will be the first jets in their respective classes equipped as an option with the Rockwell Collins HGS-3500 compact head-up display (HUD), which eliminates the need for an external projector behind the pilot’s head. The HUD will come as a package with a new EVS-3000 enhanced vision system, including infrared sensors and a video camera capable of seeing LED runway lights that infrared sensors cannot detect.

Embraer expects the Legacy 500 to enter service next year; service entry of the Legacy 450 is planned in 2015.
