An FAA-conforming Honda Aircraft HondaJet will make its first public appearance next week at EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wis. The aircraft will be unveiled on Monday morning in the Phillips 66 Plaza at the EAA AirVenture show grounds at Oshkosh Wittman Regional Airport. Honda Aircraft president and CEO Michimasa Fujino and EAA chairman Jack Pelton are scheduled to make remarks during the program. After the ceremony, the HondaJet will be on static display for the rest of the week at Honda’s exhibit (407 to 416) alongside other Honda innovations, including daily demonstrations of Asimo, Honda’s humanoid robot.

Honda Aircraft has a long history at EAA AirVenture. The prototype HondaJet, powered by Honda-designed HF118 engines, made its first appearance at AirVenture in 2005, and a year later at the show, Fujino announced that Honda had decided to certify and produce the HondaJet. Honda and GE formed a joint venture partnership, GE Honda Aero Engines to develop the more powerful HF120 engine for the HondaJet and any other interested manufacturer.

Although plans had been to achieve certification sooner, FAAtype certification of the HondaJet is now expected in next year’s fourth quarter. With its distinctive over-the-wing engine-mounting scheme, the airframe and powerplant combination promises superior and efficient performance, including a best-in-class 420-knot cruise speed and 43,000-foot maximum altitude. The HondaJet also features an enclosed lavatory, made possible by the space available because the engines are not mounted on the aft fuselage.
