FAA Proposes Embraer EMB-135/-145 Airworthiness Directive

The FAA is proposing an Airworthiness Directive for the Embraer EMB-135 and -145 as a result of a lightning strike that hit an airplane tail boom, causing rear bulkhead parts to jam an elevator control rod. The AD requires installing or reworking metallic diverters and aluminum sheets; modifying the lights assembly on the rear movable fairing of the tail boom; and replacing the hood assembly and rerouting its electrical harness. Currently lightning strikes may cause certain parts to contact the airplane pitch control system, resulting in reduced airplane controllability.
