Review Overrun Guidance, Safety Group Tells Pilots

After a Hawker Beechcraft 400A overran a runway at Peachtree DeKalb Airport (PDK), Atlanta, Ga., on June 18, the Air Charter Safety Foundation (ACSF) recommended business jet crews review FAA Advisory Circular 91-79, Runway Overrun Prevention, which addresses landing performance and stabilized approaches along with a number of other available resources.

On landing, the light business jet slid down an embankment before crashing through an airport fence. Although the airplane was totally destroyed, all occupants escaped unharmed. The reason for the overrun is still under investigation.

While the foundation primarily reviews safety measures for the air charter industry, the group monitors safety of all types of business aviation operations.
