New UK Helicopter Show To Debut in September

Bob Munton, founder and former owner of the biennial Helitech show, thinks the rotorcraft industry still needs another event. Planned for September 26 to 27 in Silverstone, England, The Helicopter Show already has commitments from the UK distributor of Robinson Helicopter, Marenco SwissHelicopter, Helicopters Guimbal of France and Quest Helicopters of the UAE. “The bigger helicopter OEMs are being cautious,” Munton told AIN, but he expects either Eurocopter or AgustaWestland to make a decision soon to attend, with the others following suit. He said he thinks the first edition of The Helicopter Show will attract up to 200 exhibitors and that the show’s Silverstone Raceway venue will be a big draw for attendees. The renowned Formula 1 raceway has its own heliport and a good location for a helicopter static display next to the sleek, high-tech Silverstone Wing conference center, which opened last May. Munton and his staff of four are promoting the event to private owners (who are welcome to fly in), commercial operators and military rotorcraft operations. Helitech (now owned by Reed Exhibitions) covers commercial, some private and no military, Munton said. Helitech takes place in Duxford, England, also in September, but in odd-numbered years.
