Argus Reports SMS Training Lacking at Bizav Operators
In its newly released annual safety management system (SMS) audit results report

In its newly released annual safety management system (SMS) audit results report, Argus says its Prism subsidiary has generally found a lack of SMS training at several business aviation flight departments. This latest report is based on 65 audits Argus performed last year, from which the Prism team reviews and compiles the results. The findings focus on areas of SMS and emergency response planning that auditors found to have the highest number of deficiencies and then provide recommendations regarding industry best practices in these areas. “The detailed report provides operators with benchmarking-type data that affords them the opportunity to evaluate their own safety programs against some of the most professional companies in the industry,” said Prism director of system safety Steve Witowski. “After reviewing the report, we found a vast majority of the audit findings pointed to a lack of SMS training. Employees need to be active participants and have a good understanding of safety management concepts for an SMS to be effective.” The report is available at no charge from Argus. In other related news, Prism’s flight risk assessment tool is now accessible from the flight-planning module on Honeywell’s Global Data Center website.
