Chad is the editor of AINalerts, AIN's daily business aviation newsletter, and is also the news editor at AIN Media Group.&nbsp;He has been writing about aviation, with an emphasis on business aviation, since 1994. Chad started his writing career at The Avion,&nbsp;the&nbsp;student newspaper at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida, serving as editor-in-chief before graduating with a bachelor's in aeronautical science. After a stint as managing editor at Professional Pilot&nbsp;magazine, he joined&nbsp;AIN in late 1998. Chad holds a commercial pilot certificated with instrument and multi-engine ratings, and he also is a CFI/CFII. He lives and works from his home in Venice, Florida.

Despite a recommendation by the International Association of Machinists executive council to approve the contract offered by Hawker Beechcraft, 55 percent of members voted to reject the proposal last month. A strike vote was not authorized. The current contract remains in effect until it expires in August next year, and negotiations are not likely to reopen before then. It is unclear whether an incentive plan negotiated last month by Kansas governor Mark Parkinson remains valid. The state offered, and Hawker Beechcraft accepted, an incentive package for product development, workforce training and tuition reimbursement for the company and its employees in Wichita. However, the agreement was contingent on the successful conclusion of a new, long-term labor agreement between Hawker Beech and its union workers. For more background, see page 12.
