Now that the FAA has issued its final rule on equipment requirements for ADS-B Out, the agency has established an ADS-B In aviation rulemaking committee (ARC) to define strategy for incorporating ADS-B In technologies into the National Airspace System. Composed of about two dozen representatives from various aviation user groups, as well as segments of industry and government, the committee will submit its recommendations to the FAA by Sept. 30, 2011, complete all follow-on work related to the original submission and prepare a summary detailing recommended next steps by June 1, 2012. The ARC’s recommendations are expected to provide a clear definition of how the aviation community should proceed with ADS-B In, while ensuring compatibility with ADS-B Out avionics standards. The ADS-B In ARC meetings will not be open to the public. People or organizations that are not members of the committee and are interested in attending a meeting must request and receive advance approval from the industry chair(s) or the designated federal representative.
