The three-day Asian Aerospace show kicked off today at AsiaWorld-Expo in Hong Kong, with the major business aircraft manufacturers attending in the hopes of tapping into what is expected to be an emerging market for business jets. In fact, the show’s entire static display area at Hong Kong Business Aviation Centre is composed of business aircraft, ranging from the Piaggio Avanti II turboprop twin to an Airbus A318 Elite bizliner, though–not surprisingly–all but one of the other 14 aircraft on display from Bombardier, Cessna, Dassault Falcon, Embraer, Gulfstream and Hawker Beechcraft are super-midsize models or larger. Meanwhile, the Asian Business Aviation Association, undaunted by NBAA’s cancellation of ABACE last December, is holding a two-day forum, titled “Facing the future–the emerging shape of Asian business aviation,” in conjunction with the airshow. Today’s business aviation session focused on regulatory issues and the value of current and future assets in the region; attendees at tomorrow’s gathering will hear key players’ perspective on future aviation infrastructure in Asia, as well as opinions on the outlook for business aircraft orders in the region.
