The FAA will be publishing Airworthiness Directives (AD) and Special Airworthiness Information Bulletins (SAIB) in electronic format for distribution in lieu of paper copies. GovDelivery, activated in May 2007, is accessible from the Regulatory and Guidance Library (RGL). In September 2007 the FAA stopped mailing paper copies to all owners and operators of transport airplanes and engines installed on transport airplanes. The agency intends to terminate paper distribution for transport rotorcraft and engines on October 1. Paper copies for all other rotorcraft and engines have an end date of January 1 next year and all such aircraft, engine and propeller communiqués are slated to go electronic on March 1 next year. An electronic service subscription is free and subscribers can choose to receive all published documents or only those pertaining to a specific product make and model or general categories such as small airplane or engine. The subscription service sends ADs and SAIBs to the e-mail address of each subscriber within minutes of publication in the RGL.
