Next year’s football World Cup in South Africa will undoubtedly draw massive crowds of supporters from around the globe, along with a large influx of business aircraft. Peter Bouwer, former manager of Signature Flight Support in Cape Town, now based at London Luton Airport, is confident that his company will be able to cope with the traffic in Cape Town, where a total of eight games will take place.

“We have considerable experience with traffic peaks generated by sports events, such as the rugby and cricket world championships,” Bouwer said. In the past, Signature Flight Support arranged special measures with airport management, such as using some taxiways to park private aircraft, and he has also moved personnel and equipment from other locations to airports needing to cope with traffic peaks.
