Project Phoenix, the Dubai-based entity behind the Phoenix 200 executive VIP conversion of Bombardier CRJ200 airliners, has enlisted Spectrum Aeromed of the U.S. to develop an air-ambulance version of the airplane. Offered as a dedicated transport or with a quick-change interior, the aeromed Phoenix CRJs will be outfitted in Fargo, North Dakota, where Spectrum Aeromed is based. The companies did not announce a launch customer, but said the project was conceived in response to “market interest.” The firms have also agreed to work together on larger airplanes, possibly to include Boeing 737s and Airbus A320s outfitted as flying hospitals. “We see this relationship very much as a long-term one,” said Project Phoenix CEO Mike Cappuccitti. Spectrum Aeromed is the holder of more than 50 supplemental type certificates covering installation of medical gear in 250 aircraft types. Launched last year, Project Phoenix will deliver its first Phoenix CRJ to Jet Asia of Macau on behalf of owner Ritz Pacific.
