A Beechcraft Premier IA set a speed record flying from Hawker Beechcraft’s facility in Chester, UK, to Geneva in one hour, 13 minutes and 30 seconds with an average speed of 445 knots over the distance of 545 nm. The airplane, owned by British customer Robert Kay, was flown by former astronaut Robert “Hoot” Gibson, who also holds altitude records in piston single-engine aircraft. The record was submitted to the National Aeronautic Association (NAA) for certification in Class C-I.E (6,164-13,228 pounds) Group III. Gibson has set two previous records with a Beechcraft Premier I between Seattle and Las Vegas, and between Las Vegas and Wichita in 2004. The former astronaut is on hand throughout the show to tout the Premier IA and the Premier II.
