David Cann, the FAA’s former chief of the Flight Standards Service’s aircraft maintenance division, is now vice president of regulatory compliance for aircraft maintenance provider AAR of Wood Dale, Ill. Cann retired from his FAA job last January and formed consulting firm DC Aviation. After a stint as an Air Force mechanic and service in the Vietnam War, Cann worked as a flight engineer and mechanic for Trans International Airlines, which later became Trans America Airlines. He then moved to a maintenance job for Flight International of Newport News, Va., then joined the Air Force Reserve in Youngstown, Ohio, before accepting a job at the FAA as an aviation safety inspector with the Pittsburgh air carrier district office. After jobs as principal maintenance inspector, FSDO manager and acting manager of the headquarters aircraft maintenance division, Cann joined the FAA’s executive service and became manager of the maintenance division. At AAR, Cann is responsible for repair station quality and safety.
