AvJet Opens ‘Green’ Bizjet Hangar
The first private aircraft hangar certified to the platinum level by the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) green building rating system

The first private aircraft hangar certified to the platinum level by the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) green building rating system was unveiled last month at Bob Hope Airport in Burbank, Calif. The hangar belongs to Avjet, a charter/management firm that also specializes in sales and acquisitions. The 51,138-sq-ft hangar features a solar array that can produce up to 150 percent of the facility’s electricity needs and also provides power to run ground power systems as well as to charge electric tow and ground vehicles. Fire suppression is provided by a high-fog water-based system that doesn’t require hazardous materials cleanup and minimizes damage to aircraft. Other features include low-water-use plumbing, fans and design elements that minimize or eliminate the need for heating and air-conditioning and sustainable landscaping that needs no watering or maintenance.
