A new business aviation airport has opened, albeit modestly, in western France. The site, at Scaer-Guiscriff, is located between the cities of Saint Brieuc and Lorient in western Brittany, France’s westernmost region.

The area’s name in Brittany’s Celtic language is unpronounceable by most foreigners–and a mouthful even to French people–so the airport has been named Bretagne-Atlantique (Brittany Atlantic). The area surrounding the airport is undeveloped residentially, and the airport is open 24 hours a day. A self-serve delivery system makes jet fuel available 24/7. The airport’s runway has been lengthened to 4,920 feet at a cost of $3.75 million, opening the field to transatlantic business-jet traffic. The local authorities have set aside an area of about 74 acres to attract distribution and logistics companies to the site.

The airport’s location has attracted several local businesses, which are planning to buy and share a Beech King Air F90 for travel around Europe.
