Boeing’s abrupt exit from the aeronautical satellite broadband market last year left Rockwell Collins without a partner for its eXchange broadband service for business jets. Now, Collins has relaunched eXchange and announced that passengers will indeed have access to the Internet and e-mail over Arinc’s SkyLink network. Rockwell Collins and Arinc announced their partnership late last year, but the announcement by Collins last month marks the official start of SkyLink services for eXchange customers, limited for now to operators of Bombardier’s large-cabin business jets.

Arinc announced it has turned on the data pipeline over the North Atlantic, meaning that users can now log on anywhere between Europe and the Pacific Northwest–a span of some 8,000 nm. North Atlantic coverage was activated on May 14 using a Loral SkyNet satellite and became available last month with a coverage area including much of northern Canada, southern Greenland and the North Atlantic tracks. The SkyLink service is also used aboard large-cabin Gulfstreams as part of that manufacturer’s Broad Band Multi Link service.
